Sarah Alice Lewis Morgan, age 97, of Rutherfordton

Sarah Alice Lewis Morgan, age 97, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Lewis and Annie Bell Sane Lewis. Sarah Alice was also preceded in death by her husband, Coy Morgan; her brother, Hicks Lewis; and her grandson, Josh Campbell.

Sarah Alice was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. Mission work was close to her heart, and she was part of the Ladies' Soup Team. She served her church in many roles, including church clerk, Sunday School teacher, and kept the church nursery for almost 50 years. She also taught in the Rutherford County School System for 35 years. She was active with the Green Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, served as a Green Hill 4-H Club leader, and participated in the ECA.

She was a graduate of Women's College (UNC-G).

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Morgan Campbell (Douglas), of Rutherfordton; her son, William C. Morgan Jr. (Patricia), of Black Mountain; two grandchildren, Truly and Tanner Morgan; and two step-grandchildren, Caleb and Kyle Chandler.

The funeral was held September 13 at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Brian Blanchette officiating.
