Shelby…the one team Chase High School has yet to beat in the local history of high school football.

The Trojans had their chance and seemed to be on the path of ending the streak of 45 games without a win over the Golden Lions.

Chase jumped on top 10-0 quickly, but Shelby came back to tie it at 10-all by halftime. Shelby’s Bryan Moss (nearly 200-all purpose yards) then took it upon himself to keep the Chase winless streak alive in the series as Shelby motored on to a 37-23 win. They do have one tie in the all time series meeting.

Tyreece Gossett got over 100 yards rushing again with Marquis Cash and Tajae McMullens combining for another 100 yards on the evening. This Friday, Chase with host St. Jude School.

East Rutherford had their chance to tussle with the top spot in the SMAC, but lost 45-13. Burns’ Brandon Littlejohn and Darius Ramsey were just unstoppable in the contest.

East Rutherford’s Rahkim Franklin had 90-yards rushing, but East only collected 220 yards overall.

East Rutherford will have Freedom (7-1) at home this Friday.

Up in Morganton, the Hilltoppers finally ended a six-game losing streak as R-S Central shutout Patton 27-0, last Friday. Devante Austin led the charge with three touchdowns on the evening.

Central will get Shelby on Friday night at Shelby.

TJCA lost on homecoming night to Mountain Heritage 54-21. TJCA will visit nearby Polk County on Friday. Travis Waldroup-Rodrigues caught a touchdown pass, Mac Martin scored on a touchdown run and Efrim Borders returned a kickoff 86 yards for touchdown in the loss.

History in the making?

While the football team searches for it’s first win of the year, Thomas Jefferson’s boys soccer team has likely wrapped up a playoff spot for the first time in that sport in school history. The mighty Gryphons, now 12-2 overall and 7-2 in conference have just beaten 1A league foes Avery and Mitchell for the second time each this year to unofficially grab atleast a wildcard postseason spot. To make it official, TJCA needs to win two of the next four conference games with just 32 teams in 1A getting into the field.

Another scenario to consider, if TJCA can win out, they would win their first Western Highlands Conference title in any sport in school history and own a number one seed in the playoffs. The biggest game is October 24th when they get the rematch with Hendersonville on the road. Hendy won the first match 2-0.

David Snyder and Konner Munjas leads the charge, but good things are also coming from Mathias Talbert, who has scored in two of the last three contests for TJCA .
