SMSgt. William "Whitey" Splawn, Ret., age 77, of Mooresboro, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022.
Whitey was born January 19, 1945 in Rutherford County to the late Shuford Splawn and Lennie Brown Splawn.
He served honorably in the US Army for over 23 years where he held the rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retirement. In his younger days, he attended Henrietta First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Eloise Gunter, Martha Melton, Norma Hopper, Sally Oakes, Dorean Westbrook and brothers Herbert, Eugene and Gerald Splawn.
Survivors include his daughter Charlene Douthit and husband, Robert of Monroe, brother Doyle Splawn (Earlene) of Mooresboro; a special sister, Teresa Swofford of Cowpens, SC and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held October 6 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Brian Cole officiating. Military honors were accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
