Rutherford County Libraries and KidSenses Children’s Interactive Museum have partnered to bring free science programs for school-aged children in the region each month.
“Super Science Saturdays” will be held the last Saturday at the library from 11 a.m. to noon. Funding for the program was provided by a grant from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. Each month will be a different topic of the YES (Youth Engaged with Science) Discovery Program, and will be STEM-based. In March children learned about what happens when temperatures are 322 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
“We are very excited about our partnership with KidSenses, and are continually seeking opportunities to offer learning, as well as fun experiences for our young patrons,” said Jeannie Smith, youth services librarian for Rutherford County Libraries. “KidSenses can help foster the learning opportunities available in our libraries, and the Library can promote the educational opportunities available for children at KidSenses.”
Each monthly program will be held at 11 a.m. at the main branch of the library on Callahan-Koon Road, with the exception of two this fall which will be held at Mountains and Haynes Branches.
The schedule is as follows:
April 25 - Action Reaction

Aug. 22 - Blast Off Into Physics
Sept. 26 - Rainforest Wonders
