Sylvia Jean Foster Hutchins, 73, of Rutherfordton, NC

Sylvia Jean Foster Hutchins, 73, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away on June 10, 2026. Born April 18, 1953, in Rutherfordton, Sylvia lived a life defined by devotion to her family, her community, and her faith.

Sylvia and her husband, Larry Hutchins, shared 55 years of marriage. During Larry's service in the United States Air Force, the couple traveled extensively, building a life together across many miles before ultimately returning to the place Sylvia had always called home. After settling back in Rutherfordton, Sylvia dedicated herself to public service, working as a secretary at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department until her retirement in 2011.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Larry Hutchins, her daughter, Shelly Rene Little; her sisters, Clara E. Foster and Janice Marie Manley; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Michael Hutchins, and her granddaughter, Arwen Little.

A lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sylvia's faith was the cornerstone of her life.

A funeral was held June 13 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Forest City.
