Hang on to your helmets, conference play begins this weekend on the gridiron as Rutherford County has three big games scheduled on Friday.

The one that all of Rutherford County seems to talk about every preseason is the battle between the Hilltoppers and the Cavaliers. Well, it’s time to take it to the field.

East Rutherford cruised to a 28-0 win over West Lincoln last Friday. Four touchdowns were called back in which saw 14 penalties flags were thrown for 123 yards against the Cavs this past week.

This Friday, the two teams will play at R-S Central. Last year, Adrian Wilkins scored on a controversial blown whistle from the stands as East beat Central 24-12.

Right now, T.J. Watkins has taken over that role.

However, Donald Wilkins could be the key to the game after blocking a punt and catching a touchdown pass this past Friday.

R-S Central played well against the undefeated Warriors but fell 38-23 at Erwin. Central’s Taylor Ledbetter pass for nearly 200 yards and Devante Austin is becoming a key element to Central’s offense.

Meanwhile, the only undefeated football team in the county is Chase. The Trojans got to 4-0 as they whipped Cherryville 52-10 last week.

The Trojans will face Patton on the road, Friday. And nobody is more pumped about this one than the Trojans, who suffered a 34-0 beat down last year at home. Trust me, Coach Bailey didn’t forget and neither did his team. Expect Patton (0-4) to go to Spread formation.

As for the Chase football team, they are holding a golf tourney at the Forest City Golf Course on October 1st. If anyone is interested, you may contact Daniel Bailey at Chase High. It’s $200 per 4-man team with a luncheon to start the day off. Tee off will be at 1:30p.m.

Thomas Jefferson had it’s highest output of the season, but fell 59-40 to Rosman this past week. They host Mitchell this coming week.
