The US Army Jazz Ambassadors to perform free concert featuring "The Greatest Generation"

On October 20 The Foundation Performing Arts Center, on the campus of Isothermal Community College in Spindale, will present a free concert entitled "The Greatest Generation," a tribute to the men and women of World War II, performed by the US Army's Jazz Ambassadors. The audience will enjoy many of the classic Big Band Era songs while the story of the war is told through pictures and videos. Selection will include Take the "A" Train, In The Mood, The White Cliffs of Dover and Moonlight Serenade, plus the Armed Forces Salute and American The Beautiful just to name a few.

"The Greatest Generation" focuses on the American sentiment, American resolve and American unity that defined this generation with narration that features letters written to and from servicemen and women during the war, as well as famous quotes from the likes of Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The Jazz Ambassadors, the United States Army's premier touring big band travels thousands of miles each year to present jazz to enthusiastic audiences throughout the nation and around the world. As a component of The United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC, the Jazz Ambassadors supports it mission of carrying "into the grassroots of our country the story of our magnificent Army." In performances across America and throughout the world, the men and women of this internationally acclaimed organization take great pride in reflecting the excellence of all our nation's Soldiers. Formed in 1969, this 19-member ensemble has received great acclaim at home and abroad performing America's greatest original art form, jazz. Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are programmed to entertain all types of audiences.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, October 20 begins at 3PM and is free to all, although a ticket is required. Tickets are available at the Foundation Box Office Tuesday through Friday, from 11am-5pm and at the door the afternoon of the performance.
