East Rutherford and R-S Central met for a third time on the court this season in boys play. Central, who has continued its up and down season seemed to be on pace in knocking off East Rutherford. Central led most of the first half, but a 22-0 run by East midway through the contest allowed the Cavs to pick up a 77-66 win at home.

With the win, East Rutherford’s boys move to 16-2 overall, 6-1 in conference as they hold the number one 2A playoff seed in the SMAC with five games left. R-S Central on the other hand has played well against the likes of East, Shelby and Freedom, but have fallen short each time. Currently, the Hilltoppers hold the number three 3A seed out of the SMAC for the playoffs

Meanwhile, R-S Central’s girls keep rolling. R-S Central’s girls had a double-double from Shannon Hines (28 points and 12 rebounds) to lead the Lady Hilltoppers past East 50-42 for the second time this season.

As it stands R-S Central (16-1, 7-0), has just five conference games left, but holds a two-game advantage in league play. The Lady Hilltoppers have also won 14 straight.

And how about Travis Waldroup-Rodriguez? He goes onto score 47 against Avery in a key Thomas Jefferson (10-6, 5-3) boys basketball win last Friday.

Chase’s Carlos Watkins help his Trojans win their first conference game of the season as his 18 points and 12 rebounds were enough to beat Patton 59-31. Jake Shaneberger also stepped up for Chase with 14 points. That’s a good sign to see as Jake played solidly last Friday.

Well, as I predicted last week, it will be the Patriots vs. the Giants in Super Bowl 46. It’s a repeat of Super Bowl 42. However, both teams received two gifts each on Sunday to get that outcome.

The Patriots barely hung on to beat Baltimore (23-20) this past week with little-known Sterling Moore. Moore broke up the potential game-winning touchdown catch to the Raven’s Lee Evans. Then, the unthinkable happens as Billy Cundiff misses a field goal. Who would have ever thought?

In San Francisco, the 49ers Kyle Williams gives away two possessions in the punt return game to allow the Giants field position on both occasions. It also set up 10 second half points for New York to win 20-17.

So the big game is another week away. Sorry, no predictions just yet.
