It has been said: “Self-esteem is the real magic wand that can form a child’s future. A child’s self-esteem, affects every area of existence.”*
If this be true, then two young brothers are the epitome of this wise saying. The magic wand in their existence is their father, mother, uncle and grandparents. Their names are Nathan and Jacob Ellenburg who just turned seven and five years old on June 25 and June 26 respectively. They are champion motorcross racers.
Their story is one of inspiration, love and dedication. Their parents Aaron and Kristen as well as their Uncle Brandon “Bam-Bam” and Grandparents have and continue to spend enormous amount of time with these two very talented boys ever since they were born. Nathan has been riding on movable objects before he was two and was still in diapers. His brother, Jacob, enjoyed riding but did not want to compete in motorcross.
That all changed six days after November 20, 2010. That is the day his mother, Kristen, a Spanish teacher at R-S Central passed away from breast cancer. She was only 32 years old. Kristen was a very spiritual lady and the affect she had on her sons is amazing. Testimony to that is that on November 26, 2010, Jacob, just four years old, agreed to ride in his very first competitive motorcross race. He’s been racing every since!
In the recent Winter Series, the brothers came home with five trophies. Nathan took three home for being first in all three classes he raced and Jacob was third in two classes - his first big wins.
The Ellenburg boys are third generation motorcross racers. Their grandfather raced and their dad, Aaron, raced from the time he was twelve years old and made it one level under pro.
Nathan has now qualified to be included in the prestigious Loretta Lynn’s AMA Amateur National Motorcross Championships at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. It was founded in 1982 and celebrates it’s 30th anniversary this year. The races will take place on August 2 through the 6th. The family leaves at the end of July.
The boys father, Aaron said: “My purpose is to spend time with my family and surround ourselves with good people. Time spent with them is most rewarding. Very few kids ever make it to the pro ranks. I want to give Nathan and Jacob this possibility.”
However far the boys go, without any doubt, will be an outward display of what love is really all about. With their mom in heaven and dad and his family constantly involved, Nathan and Jacob have and are continually given what it takes to be champions!
