Every year, the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls the importance of goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Girls take these skills and use them to confidently sell cookies to their family and friends.
Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont proudly recognized 613 girls who sold 500 or more boxes of cookies during the 2015 cookie season at the GEO (Girl Empowering Opportunity) program on June 20. The annual recognition event took place at Wet 'n Wild Emerald Pointe.

Along with recognizing these girls, $25,000 in scholarships were awarded to 20 girls, including the top three cookie sellers council-wide for the year. Meghan Melton of Rutherfordton was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship at this event. Meghan attends R-S Middle School and is the daughter of Steve and Stacey Brown.

"We are always impressed by the initiative our girls take during the annual cookie program," said Lane Cook, chief executive officer of GSCP2P. "They work hard to sell as many cookies as they can while learning lifelong skills that will make them successful in whatever they do. The benefits of the cookie program are ones that will last a lifetime."

Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont, a United Way agency, is one of 112 councils nationwide chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to deliver Girl Scout program within specific geographic boundaries. The local council serves nearly 14,700 girls and 6,400 adult volunteers in 40 counties and maintains three camp properties and four service centers offering unique experiences for girls and adults.
