The option offense and a tough defensive line gave Chase a football season that they have been waiting to have for over a decade now.

However, the dream season ended when Chase lost 29-7 to Shelby on the road in the 2AA gridiron playoffs.

After a scoreless first quarter, Chase stayed strong and trailed just 15-7 at the half.

Chase got a touchdown pass off the arm of Tyreece Gossett to Kishon Crawford from 7-yards out.

Dion Hines recorded a first half interception for the Trojans and made a few defensive stops along the way with Carlos Watkins leading the charge. The Trojan defense holds Shelby inside the five-yard line on a fourth down play in the second half, but the Golden Lions’ Bryan Moss has two touchdown runs. Daylan Fuller throws one and runs for another touchdown to total all of Shelby‘s figures on the scoreboard.

The Trojans end the season 9-4, the best record they have recorded on the gridiron in 13 years.

Shelby, who hasn’t missed a beat since the halftime break at Chase six weeks ago, likely will make the western finals unless Bandys has something to say about it.

When we left off last week, Thomas Jefferson had made it two rounds in the 1A playoffs, then they traveled to Hayesville and escaped with a 4-3 win to advance to the elite eight.

There was only one problem, the had to face Hendersonville, the winner of the ! Title for two straight years in the fourth round.

On Saturday, it was two Hendersonville fouls in the box that could have tied the game in the first half which could have completely changed the complexion of the match.

The Gryphons David Snyder and Alain Colnot were questionably fouled by the Bearcats, which would have resulted in a penalty kick each.

Instead Thomas Jefferson went down 3-1 at the half with the lone Gryphons goal by Snyder on a Bryson Nager assist.

Thomas Jefferson pressed frantically for goal during the late stages only to have two more goals scored on them because of that reason.

As for Hendersonville soccer, they remind me of Rich Dominquez former R-S Central teams when it comes to the postseason. The Bearcats have the same approach and enough legs in 80 minutes to give any club trouble. As for the Gryphons, it was a great season as they end it 17-6 overall.

NASCAR-wise, it will be Carl Edwards versus Tony Stewart at the season ending event in Homestead-Miami, Florida.

While Stewart has been on a roll as of late, Edwards just remains steady. Going into the final race at the 1.5-mile oval, there is no margin for error as this one could end the same way the 1992 championship did.

Alan Kulwicki planned one of the smartest races he could have after fellow competitor, Davey Allison crashed out. Kulwicki led the most laps, then allowed eventual runner-up in the points that season, Bill Elliott to win the race. Alan cruised to a second place finish to grab the title.

Although, the points system is different now, I still have a feeling some serious strategy is about to decide the 2011 Sprint Cup title.
