Everybody knew that East Rutherford would have a steady offense and defense, but wondered if losing two stud pitchers would be too much to overcome. So far the answer is a no.

Despite a key injury, East Rutherford (14-0) baseball has now won 31 games in a row, dating back to last April’s Easter Tourney loss to T.C. Roberson in the finals at McNair Field.

While those in Cavalier land just keep watching the wins come, Chase softball is doing the same thing too.

Chase is now ranked third in the state in 2A.

The Lady Trojans are 9-0 coming into this past Monday’s game with Burns. Offensively, Chase is pretty solid with six Lady Trojans, who are batting above .400 with at least 15 plate appearances.

Chase junior, Sam Carpenter leads them in hitting with a 0.588 batting average and Rebecca Bailey has all nine wins from the mound, issuing just two walks so far.

Waiting for the second East Rutherford-R-S Central meeting in baseball? It arrives at Central on Monday, April 18th. The rivalry softball games takes place the following day at Central. Expect both to be close contests.

Congrats goes to the Cavs’ Devince Boykins, who made the All-State team in high school basketball.

As for Thomas Jefferson (9-1-2), the girls soccer team continues to impress and now ranked eighth in the state in 1A.

The most coveted golf event of them all was this past weekend.

The 2011 Masters seemed to be all Rory Mcllroy’s, until carding a seven on a Par 4 named Camilla, Sunday.

McIllroy led all weekend at Augusta National, but lost the lead with eight holes to go on the final day and never regained it. Sure, it was another Masters collapse to go in the history book, maybe even cracking the top ten with a final round of 80. However, the 21-year-old will have many more Master tournaments in his future to collect that Green Jacket.

Oh and Tiger Woods roared to the front on the final day. Why is anybody surprised? Although, Woods has dealt with a number of issues over the past couple of years, he is one of the best at smelling blood on the final day of an event. Tiger’s 67 on Sunday proved it, earning him a fourth for the tournament, plus he tied for the second best final round score.

Moving on to motorsports, NASCAR visits Talladega this weekend. Fans generally love the place, but the drivers aren’t so keen about the biggest and fastest track on the circuit.

Presuming the idea of torn up race cars and “The Big Wreck” is almost a guarantee on Sunday, but the final 50 laps are always dicey.

Picking a winner at Talladega is like choosing Mike Tyson to a boxing match, out of three professional fighters. Either way, you are probably going to be wrong in who you pick. I will be gutsy though and take Kevin Harvick to win and Lord no, I am not calling out Tyson.
