USDA Rutherford County Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dianne Davis is reminding producers that rules have changed concerning their receiving a 1099 for 2012 USDA payments. A new ruling for the 2012 year is that only producers who receive payments of $600 or more for the 2012 tax year will receive a 1099 from USDA. This does not mean that the money received is not taxable. It is a budgetary move to save costs for paper and postage. Producers are still responsible for reporting all income on their 2012 income tax. If you do not receive a 1099 from USDA and you received a payment for the 2012 tax year, please call the office @ 828-287-4220 and we will furnish you a statement of payments received.
