Nearly a year ago, Army veteran Chris Fisher, a native of Rutherford County and Claims Specialist with CPS Construction in Shelby, talked with the company owners Kevin Nunns and Cole Thompson regarding his wish to help a needy veteran with a free roof replacement.

'I have heard of some veterans in the Marine Corp League helping other veterans due to them living off their disability checks and having no other income or way of generating income," Fisher said of his reason to join the League. He knew the Marine Corps League was willing to help local veterans.

The Marine Corp League and CPS Construction partnered to receive applications and after reviewing the submissions, a couple was selected for the new roof.

"It was an amazing blessing," said the recipient, E. Probst, an Army veteran. He and his wife Melissa moved to Rutherford County several years ago after living in various parts of the country.

They couldn't afford a new roof due to issues with the insurance company and rates.

Melissa said she knew the couple couldn't pay for a new roof but one day as she was scrolling on social media, she found a message the roofing company was looking for a veteran who was in need of a new roof.

They applied for the roof and were selected.

"They did a great job...we were expecting them early that morning and they showed up at about 6:45am and they went straight to work, no sitting around and they finished the roof in one day," the veteran said.

E. Probst was overjoyed with the job the roofers did. "We're so thankful for the new roof. It was an incredible opportunity."

"A lot of companies might come and promise this and that, but this company did the job. They did what they said they would," he said. "I want to thank all of them."

"The roofers thanked me for my service... it was genuine," he said.

The veteran spent 23 years in the army and retired disabled. He is the recipient of the Star of Valor and has other bronze stars.

"His military career took him all over the world," Melissa said.

After looking for a dream home, they found their home through a realtor, Melissa said. "We were looking for peace and quiet."

After living in apartment complexes across the country, they are especially thankful to be living in a peaceful place - and now with a brand new roof.
