Washburn Community Outreach Center has received $2,600 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need. Washburn Community Outreach Center will use the gift to purchase local food from local farms, increasing nutritional quality and equity through our food distribution.

"We are already grateful for the weekly donations of food from our Forest City Food Lion store, but this Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation gift is further supporting Rutherford County nutritional insecurity efforts and increasing access to local produce," said Lindy Abrams, Director.

Washburn Community Outreach Center exists to address the direct needs of its clients, providing relief, guidance, support and a hopeful path forward. This program focuses specifically on relief and support in regard to food insecurity, which seems to be the most critical, basic assistance their clients need. The timing to support this change is critical as the center finds it necessary to adapt to the increased food costs while also pursuing alternative sources of food through local farms.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $17.8 million in grants.
