We have an Olympian in town; opening ceremonies August 23

Conner Stroud, 21, is visiting his family this week in Rutherford County as he awaits his trip to Tokyo where he is a member of the 2021 Paralymic USA Tennis Team. Stroud, shown here with friend Chris Alber Allan after playing tennis at his family owned tennis club off Barber Road, Rutherfordton, leaves for Tokyo next week. He will meet the USA Tennis Team at the Atlanta airport and they will travel together. Opening ceremonies for the Paraympic Games is August 23 and Conner will be on the court around August 27. Rutherford County is rooting for Conner -- a historic first for an Olympian at the World Games. (Rutherford Weekly will keep readers updated on his competition date).
