William Ray “Smiley” Walker, age 71

William Ray “Smiley” Walker, age 71, of Forest City, NC, passed away August 18, 2012.    

 William was born July 3, 1941 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Johnny Walker and Annie Mae Waters Walker.  He worked for Stonecutter Mills for over 30 years and was of the Baptist Faith.  He enjoyed gardening, yard work, NASCAR, and especially fishing which included taking trips to Florida to fish in the St. John River.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Pam Tomblin and his in-laws, K.D. and Cordie Wilson.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Kay Wilson Walker; one sister, Grace Walker of Alexander; two brothers, Jimmy Lee Walker of Alexander and Freddie Gene Walker of Sandy Mush; two grandchildren, David Tomblin and Emily Tomblin; one aunt, Daisy Brown and husband, Daniel of Caroleen; one uncle, Jack Silvers of Ellenboro; one son-in-law, Dwight Tomblin of Shiloh and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral services were conducted with Reverend Danny Bumgarner and Reverend Lanny J. Funchess officiating.  Interment followed in Gilkey Church of God Cemetery.     Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043.
