William Rufus McGowan "Billy"

William Rufus McGowan "Billy", of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away June 26, 2022 at the age of 70.

Billy married his best friend, Susan Callahan McGowan. They have been together for 52 years. They have three children: William Rufus McGowan ll "Mac" of Holden Beach, with his wife Monique McGowan and their children, Will and Emma McGowan, daughter Katharine Gray McGowan "Katie "of Atlanta GA, and daughter Harriet Elizabeth McGowan, of Banner Elk, with her husband Garrett Merck and daughter Mackenzie Merck.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents William Estes McGowan and Alta Wilson McGowan, his younger sister Sara Julie McGowan. He is survived by his eldest sibling Vivian McGowan Johnson, of Raleigh, her husband, Bud Johnson and nephew David Johnson.

There was a celebration of Billy's life at First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton July 1.
