It has often been said that a good picture is worth a thousand words. Using that we offer you 11,000 words this week! Mayfest was not about names, it was all about people and families. Free admission brought together an array of people from all over Rutherford County. It was a great display of talent. Vendors from all over came. The festive mood, smiles and laughter was a positive indication that the 39th Mayfest - “Top Of The Hill” in Rutherfordton definitely was a huge success!

Bands and the sound of music filled the streets from the front of the courthouse. The smell of vendors good things to eat and the offerings of Rutherfordton’s eateries gave us great food in the carnival atmosphere. Children climbed the “mountain” and bounced themselves into a hunger. Thousands walked the street and greeted friends as their curiosities made them stop and investigate the offerings of the day. Then Chase High School band came marching down the street! It was one big fun filled party and everyone was welcome.

Just think! Next year it will be 40 years that Rutherfordton will put on this event. It seems that most of us in Rutherford County will want to be there! Four decades! Wow! Now, you’ll have to excuse me, but I need to get another turkey leg, corn on the cob, and a funnel cake before I go home! Yum!
