The last five games have come under mixed review for Rutherford County’s legion baseball club. They went 3-2 during last week’s games. Post 423 upended Hendersonville to start off the week, 12-4, then downed Burke County on the road 11-6. In the win against Burke, Ridge Beheler took the win on the hill and Landis Jenkins came up huge in relief. Rutherford County got a bigger boost when a four-run ninth inning kept Post 423 ahead for certain and was capped off by a Derek Deaton homer.

A happy, loving child, MacKenzie Alazay Hutchins.
She is 24 years old, a single mother of three - twin girls and a boy. She is one of four girls. Her name is Rebekah Hutchins. Rebekah is a waitress at a Black Mountain hotel. She returned from work on Friday, June 1, 2012 to her mothers house where her son, four year old Kaden Scott and her two year old twin girls, MacKenzie Alazay and Aliana Brooklyn were being kept. To her amazement, police cars were in the yard and all over the house. It was then that she learned that MacKenzie had fallen into the four foot plastic swimming pool in the front yard. She was quickly transported to Mission Hospital by helicopter, but it was too late. Rebekah’s precious twin daughter, MacKenzie was buried the following Thursday at the Hutchins home church. Her mother is still trying to cope. She says she still talks to her daughter while embracing MacKenzie’s sister, Aliana, and brother, Kaden. She remains in shock. Family and friends constantly offer her support.

We’re about to celebrate the 4th of July. I would say more people enjoy the outdoors on this day than any other. And I would also say that barbeque pits all over America will be responsible for a little global warming on that day. It is also an important day in the life of our country. It reminds us of our freedom and freedoms. It reminds us of those who fought for this freedom in the past and those who are keeping it now in places like Afghanistan and Iraq.

What’s eating you? There is a type of jellyfish that lives in the Bay of Naples, Italy.  In that same bay are some snails.  When these snails are small, a jellyfish may swallow one of them, but the jellyfish can’t digest the snail because the snail’s shell protects it. And so the snail fastens itself to the inside of the jellyfish, and in a cruel twist of fate, slowly begins to eat the jellyfish.  When the snail reaches maturity, it’s consumed the entire jellyfish.  The eater becomes the eaten. So what’s eating you?  What have you swallowed lately?   | |
