Celebrating the 30th Cinco de Mayo at Mi Pueblito Mexican Restaurant in Rutherfordton on May 5 was just one of numerous special events this month to commemorate the beginning of the successful restaurant.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Cozette Hoots Womack, affectionately known as Sandy. She departed this world April 30, 2026. Born August 4, 1952, in Hendersonville, NC, Sandy's life was a testament to love of family and friends.

Billy Osborne "Bill" Howard passed away May 3, 2026 at the age of 96.

Bobby Johnson, a man of profound faith, steady hands, and a generous heart, passed away May 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Born November 3, 1943 to LeeAnna Waters Johnson and Robert E. Johnson, Bobby grew up with a deep appreciation for family and hard work--values that would define his 82 years.

Cheri Ann White Paredes, 38, passed away after battling cancer Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was born in Cleveland County, NC to Amelia B. Davis and the late John Charles White. She is also predeceased by her grandparents, Dwain and Janice Bailey; grandparents, Howard and Jeannie White.

Donald William Johnson, 79, of Wake Forest, formerly of Charlotte, passed away May 6, 2026, at the Durham VA Hospital. He was born in Rutherford County on November 7, 1946, to the late William & Ruby McCurry Johnson.
