The Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS) Pharmacy donated 27 full backpacks to the Rutherford County School System on August 21, 2014.  

Susan Hoy, director of the RRHS Pharmacy, decided to conduct a community service project for the pharmacy team to participate in.  “I challenged our pharmacy team to bring in supplies for elementary school children’s backpacks. 

How’s the weather?           

    The weather is the most talked about and least acted upon subject we have.  For instance, where I live, July and August were really hot and dry.  And that’s what everyone started their conversations about.  In fact, I heard that it was so hot that the trees were whistling for dogs.  And that hot water was coming out of both taps in most homes.  And that you could make sun tea instantly.  And that you could get sunburned through your car window.

    That it was so hot this summer that all you had to do was pull a potato out of the ground and add butter, salt, and pepper because it baked underground.  And that you could break into a sweat the instant you stepped outdoors at 7:30 in the morning.  And that one day, the temperature dropped below 95 and people started shivering.

    Well, maybe it wasn’t that hot.  But unless you live in a dome and control the thermostat, the weather isn’t always going to be perfect.  Just like the world isn’t perfect, either.  So just laugh and make the best of it…as you Live Positive in a negative world.

Relay For Life
Rutherford County Relay For Life 18^th Annual event  Friday, Sept. 5. Relay kicks off at 6pm at Chuck Summey Park on Vance Street Forest City. Join the hundreds of folks who are helping to finish the fight against cancer!

Road Clean Up
The Golden Valley Community Club is having a road clean up, Sat. Sept. 6, 9am. This is a great opportunity for students to log McNair volunteer hours. Everyone is welcome from age 12 and older. Those between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult over 21. Vests, gloves and a hot dog lunch will be provided. Come join us to help make Golden Valley really GLOW! 828-245-2993.

Rockin’ Naturalist Guided Hikes
Saturdays, Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27; 11am-12pm. Explore Chimney Rock’s trails with a Park naturalist or State Park Ranger to learn about plants, wildlife, geology and more along the way. Do you multi-task at work?

    Monday is Labor Day in the U.S., that day when you celebrate the American worker by taking a day off.  Workers, not just American ones either, are often rewarded for multi-tasking, i.e., doing more than one thing at a time.  Supposedly you’re more productive when you keep several things going on at once.

    Lately, I’ve been wondering how true that is.  Think about it for a minute: the football receiver who drops a pass or lets the ball go right between his hands oftentimes tries to run without the ball, turns his head to look up field before he catches the ball in anticipation of what’s ahead.  But it really doesn’t matter what’s ahead since he didn’t catch the ball.  His coach tells him to focus on the fundamentals—catch the ball, then run; do one thing at a time.

    That’s great coaching to Live Positive, too—focus on the fundamentals.  When you do one thing at a time you concentrate more deeply, experience less stress and more success.  So Live Positive and Work Positive by paying attention to what’s most important, and do one thing at a time.

Week one of high school football is in the books and things went halfway  right for Rutherford County on the gridiron.

R-S Central (1-0) took the biggest win of the week, finally getting over the McDowell dry spell with a 26-15 road win. The Hilltoppers had an inauspicious start, but flipped the script by dominating the second half.
