Is your light on?
Do you remember the first jigsaw puzzle you tried to put together? You probably sat down with a parent or older sibling or maybe even a grandparent and stared at all of those pieces. You wondered to yourself, “How in the world are we going to get all of these tiny pieces to fit together and make that picture?”
I mean, the task seemed impossible, didn’t it?
But then your friend or family member gave you the secret to putting together jigsaw puzzles: Find all of the pieces with straight edges, the outside pieces, and put them in a pile. Put them together first, the four sides to the puzzle, and then you can begin to fill in according to colors.
It was like a light came on! Rather than trying to figure out how to put a million pieces together all at once, you had a manageable task with insider information that gave you key to success.
Today, when you’re overwhelmed by an enormous task, ask someone to show you one part that you can do immediately and well. Watch the light come on for you as you listen to life and live positive and work positive today.

One of the tools of those who love the outdoors is a knife. There has always been something special about getting a new knife. I see that same satisfaction in my son. He owns several and is never unhappy when he receives another. It’s almost a rite of passage when a young man gets his first.

We hear about it often. It seems very often. The Red Cross needing blood donors. Even now the Red Cross continues to have an urgent need for blood and platelet donations. Even though recently the Red Cross saw a 7.5 percent increase in the number of blood donors which resulted in 11,800 additional donations beyond what was anticipated, the need remains urgent due to the increased demand.

Northland is pleased to announce the winner of their recent Hometown Hero contest, Michelle Haynes. The public voting closed July 20th, with over 20,000 votes submitted across the nation. The Forest City community recognized Michelle Haynes for going above and beyond to enrich the lives of her fellow neighbors.

Often called the biggest and best car show in the Southeast, Hot Nights & Cool Rides showcases its’ big show on Saturday, August 16th from 9am to 8pm. The 23rd Annual Car Show sponsored by the Town of Forest City and the Forest City Merchant’s Association has become a major event with hundreds of entries including cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors. It is a panorama of American as well as Foreign ingenuity in design and engineering for motor vehicles.

For the first time in 34 years, a North Carolina Little League team won the Southeast Junior Baseball title. Last week, Rutherfordton was the North Carolina team who accomplished the feat, going undefeated in Regional play in Greenville, South Carolina.
Rutherfordton is in Taylor, Michigan this week trying to win the National Title and would play for the World Title if they can become best in the U.S. first.

As a young adult, I worked for a mining company. My job allowed me to stay in the mountains all day. We only saw a boss on Mondays and Fridays. I prospected for coal by core drilling. It was a great job. It was there I learned about trees and how to find ginseng and morel mushrooms. Those short years impacted by outdoor life more than any other stage of my life. It was at that time when I really did come to the point that I believed “a country boy can survive.”

Are you listening?
If I handed you one half of a one-hundred dollar bill, that is, I had torn a one-hundred dollar bill in half and given you one half, what would you say? Would you say…
“…well what good is this?”
Or, “…now why did you tear a perfectly good one-hundred dollar bill in half?”
Or, just say nothing, ball it up and throw it at me?
Odds are you’d respond in one of those ways.
But would it occur to you to say, “Well thank you so much Joey. May I have the other half also?”
Would you think about how with just a little tape, you’re one hundred dollars richer?
Maybe, but probably not.
When you listen to life, you quickly discover solutions along with the challenges, answers with the questions, wisdom with the opportunities. So focus today on making a positive life as you live positive and work positive so you discover more than you could possibly imagine.
