How’s your pace?
As I travel and speak to business groups and associations, one of the most common questions I get is, “How do you write all of those stories?” These stories are on the radio and in newspapers across the U.S. and on our blog which reaches hundreds of thousands of people in some 50 countries.
My usual response is something like, “Well, I listen to my life and that’s where the stories come from.” Then lots of times there’s a follow-up question: “But how do you write so many?” And that’s a fair question since I write about 260 or so a year.
I always answer, “I write them one at a time.”
You see, if I sat down in front of my blank computer screen with that constantly blinking cursor staring at me, and said, “I’ve got to write 260 stories” I’d never write the first one. I’d be paralyzed, frozen, by such a daunting task.
But just about everyday something happens around me and I jot myself a note about it. Later I sit down and write about that experience and it becomes a story. And pretty soon one story in a blog becomes 260.
Today, just listen to life for your story as you Live Positive and Work Positive in a negative world.
One of my favorite creations in our world is that thing we call a “day.” You know, that 24 hours that comes to an end, only to begin another 24 hours. Now I know it doesn’t take much to intrigue me but this has always been something that I have given thought to. And if you think about it, it is one of the most refreshing things about life.
In hunting or fishing it doesn’t matter what yesterday was like, today is a new day. It doesn’t matter that I never saw a deer yesterday, today will be better.
Red or Blue? Who are you for?
The battle for Rutherford County supremacy on the football field takes place at R-S Central this weekend. East Rutherford, who has won the past three meetings in the rivalry will square off against R-S Central for what maybe the County championship decider.
If R-S Central wins, they are the county champs and if East wins, they will have to beat Chase the following week to collect the title outright. If East won this weekend and Chase the next, it would be a three-way tie which would be decided on the scoring margin.

The rain failed to deter the safe driving event in front of Big Lots parking on Thursday, October 17th. “Above The Influence Day 2013” presented by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and United Way’s Youth Council sought to teach teenagers the negative results of driving while impaired. Whether it be drugs, multi tasking, or drunk driving or a combination, the lesson learned was how dangerous and life threatening it could be.
Elevator Reopens at Chimney Rock in Time for Peak Fall Colors
It was almost a clean sweep on the football field this past week. A 3-1 mark is outstanding, but it didn’t turn out exactly the way it was expected. Things certainly are heating up for second place among the SMAC 2A teams and a good shot at a playoff berth.
I started the morning sitting in a tree stand. A few weeks ago I had trimmed limbs and opened up some shooting lanes for this new stand placement. I think it is going to be a good one. The cool morning was expected as well as the lingering fog that hovers over the hills, sometimes through the late morning. That was the case on this particular day. As I peered toward the sky just before dawn, I wondered if what I was looking at was clouds instead of the fog. But after a few more minutes I recognized the familiar look and feel of this hazy mist.
As you’re walking through life, do you look back?
Our older daughter flew to London to study for a semester abroad through her university’s invitation. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for her.
Our family had a rather tearful farewell with her in the airport. The prospect of not seeing her at all for three months was somewhat sad. My wife and younger daughter wanted to wait until she cleared security and customs so we did. We strained our necks and my wife stood in a chair to watch as our daughter’s bags were opened and examined. She went through with no problems of course and having cleared, she walked on towards her gate.
My wife said, “She didn’t even look back and wave good-bye!”
I reminded her, “Honey, she didn’t look back the day she walked into her kindergarten classroom. Why should she start now?”
And you really shouldn’t either. Looking back constantly keeps you from joyfully stepping into a most wonderful future of great adventure.
So keep looking forward into the fantastic new day prepared for you as you Live Positive in this negative world today.
