Rutherford County Earns Split During Week One of Football
Rutherford County Earns Split During Week One of Football

The high school football season is underway, but the first week led to a draw for Rutherford County.

At R-S Central, there certainly was another nail-biter in the series with McDowell, but the Hilltoppers lost 8-7 at home to open the season.

Matt Atchley led the way with 90 yards rushing, but this one definitely hurts. On a wet field, with sloppy play, everybody was on edge the entire game. On three separate occasions, R-S Central (0-1) gets the ball to the McDowell 39, 20 and 2 with five minutes left to play and unluckily can’t find a way get the winning score.

Can your little kid come out to play?
I had been working particularly long, intensive hours for several weeks in a row.  I was tired beyond what a good night’s sleep can recover.  So I decided it was time to invite “little Joey,” my inner child, out to play to keep me from becoming a dull boy.
Now “little Joey” is always ready to come out to play.  This particular day I decided to make a list of fun things I did when I was a kid and do some of them.  So I wrote my list and it went something like this:
1. Go fishing.
2. Walk a dog.
3. Hang on monkey bars.
4. Skip rocks across a pond.
5.  Kick a can.
6.  Catch a frog.
That day, I decided to walk our yellow Lab, Jake, and not only did we walk, but we wrestled around in the backyard and threw the ball and played with the water hose.  It was great!
So how often does your inner child get to come out and play?  You were created to do something besides work all the time; to play and enjoy the world around you, too.  So invite your little kid to come out and play as you listen to life and Work Positive today!

A Determination To Believe & Achieve
She was a rural mail carrier but quit her job when her daughter Kristin was born. When it became just one income in a house with four children, things got very difficult. Staying home to take care of her newborn daughter and wanting something to do, Angie Bridges, who always liked crafts, made some baskets for her church friends. Her husband Josh, took some pictures of her renderings and finally started selling some of her creations at work.

Even though it’s only August, the deer hunters are getting prepared for another season. While it may be a few weeks until the season actually opens, there is much to do in order to be ready for opening day – especially if you hunt with bow and arrow. Right now I’m checking trail cameras, hanging tree stands and trying to figure out where the deer are likely to be early in the season. And it is not always where one might think.

I am reminded of an Alabama hunt several years ago. I was with a friend on a piece of property that was owned by a rancher who not only raised cattle but managed for quality deer. It really was a beautiful place and just riding around on it caused me to get extremely excited about the possibilities.

Do you run?

Among the 40 or so family members I enjoyed time with at the beach were some babies.  Now hopefully my wife and I are not eligible for birthing babies because that’s best done by younger people with more energy and less understanding of why some species eat their young.  But seriously, I love babies, enjoyed being one myself, and our two daughters when they were younger.

So I took advantage of being around these babies at the beach, glad to play with them and return them to their parents with dirty diapers.  One little guy seemed particularly happy just to run.  He ran back and forth, back and forth with this huge, face-splitting smile, squealing as if he was the one who discovered running in the first place, and wondering why no one else was.

I decided the little guy knows a lot about listening to life.  Rather than getting all excited because the new iPad is out now and you don’t have to camp out to get one, be like this baby and try just running a little this week.  You’ll be amazed by the little things as you live positive and work positive.

I’ve got one more bass fishing trip in store before I turn into a deer hunter. My friends love hunting season because they now have the lake to themselves. They will enjoy some of the best fishing of the year when the weather turns a little colder. As for me, I’ll trade a bent rod for a bent bow. But it’s not always been this way. My early adult years were spent almost exclusively fishing. I threw a plastic worm in the spring and summer, and a Rat-l-Trap and Rooster Tail in the fall and winter.
