This hunting season has started off a little odd. I’ve not actually been in the woods and yet 2 of the 3 states that surround my home have already opened their season. I wonder if I’m losing my edge. Well, not really. I am excited about going, but there are several factors that have postponed my start. First of all, I prefer a little chill in the air before I start slinging arrows. A good barometer for me is whether or not I can see my breath. I love those cool temperatures. Another reason I have not hunted yet is simply timing. I have either been traveling or getting ready to travel and have needed any extra time for other things. And then lastly, I’m just saving myself.

It maybe tabbed as the biggest game Chase has participated in over the last decade!
This Friday, Chase (6-0 overall, 2-0 in conference) finds themselves hosting the Burns Bulldogs (5-1, 1-0) on homecoming night. Chase comes off a big 28-14 win over R-S Central, which could be toughest challenge they have dealt with so far.

The 40th Annual Hilltop Festival in Rutherfordton is definitely extra special this year. As always, admission is free. It will incorporate block after block of Main Street and also the side streets of the Rutherford County seat.
Established in 1787, Rutherfordton is one of the oldest towns in western North Carolina. Downtown Rutherfordton, where the 40th Annual Hilltop Festival will take place, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While moving forward year after year, Rutherfordton manages to maintain it’s old time charm. The Hilltop Fall Festival embraces everything that is family and everything that is fun.

This past Saturday, September 17, beginning at 10 a.m. the marching and flag bearing Chesnee High School ROTC began the celebration. The parade was followed by an enormous amount of party activity all day. It ended when a fireworks show lit up the evening sky. It was all about our neighbor, Chesnee, celebrating its’ 100th birthday! What a day! What a show! A stupendous show of local pride.

I spent Saturday morning with about eight other friends and acquaintances, hunting deer. My mood was still melancholy because of the unseasonably warm weather, but the company and camaraderie made up for it. Our group was made up of the young and old, the experienced and the novice, and those who just came along for the ride.

What will you get up for?
Imagine with me a couch potato and that may not be too hard to do because you may live with one or even be one. So here’s a couch potato, stretched out on the sofa, watching TV. Well, not really watching TV, more like flipping through 150 channels and complaining because there’s nothing on. There are grip marks on the remote because of its constant use.
