Volunteers that cleaned section 4 of the Broad River.

On Saturday, September 28, ROC members and others from the community came together for the Rutherford Outdoor Coalition Broad River Fall Sweep river clean-up. Thanks to their efforts,1,180 pounds of trash and 46 tires were removed from the river. Sections 2, 3, 4, and 6 of the Broad River were cleaned and ROC would like to thank everyone involved for their help.

ROC holds these clean-ups twice a year and the next one will be in May of next year.

Many of those volunteering were ROC river stewards. ROC river stewards are community members that have adopted a section of the river, float that section regularly, and report any major trash or blockages they see to ROC. They also help with tree removal and clean-ups on the river. We appreciate all the time and energy these volunteers put into keeping the river safe and beautiful for everyone.

For info about becoming a river steward or other ways to get involved, contact Callia Johnson at trails@rutherfordoutdoor.org or call 828-351-3235.
