I’m having to temper myself concerning deer hunting. I want to go but I know that (a) I’ve got lots of work to do. And (b) I need to be fresh when November rolls around. As any deer hunter knows, November is like Christmas to us. It is the time when the rut happens in most parts of the country; especially the parts where deer grow the largest. I’ve found myself, at times, coming into this time of year weary from the previous several weeks of hard hunting.

Football in Rutherford County has seen its share of a rollercoaster type season. This past Friday, all four county teams fell, but East Rutherford had the bright spot in a sense with a tough game from Burns.
Lovell Robinson scored twice with his final touchdown run pushing East to a 28-27 lead in the fourth quarter.
However, they couldn’t withhold quarterback Chris Montgomery from scoring a touchdown on the next Burns possession as Tylan Ruff added over 200 yards rushing on the night in a 33-28 Bulldog victory.

16th Annual Antiques, Classics & Rod Car Show

With the development of the new festival grounds for the Snuffy Jenkins Festival at Globe Park in Forest City, the venue for the annual event has changed to a more bluegrass friendly outdoors. This year six groups were presented starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 7th. The festival, named for an old time banjo player and an early proponent of the three finger style, Snuffy Jenkins from Harris, Rutherford County, North Carolina, took on a different meaning.

The Chicago Bears and the New York Giants played football one Monday night some years ago. One announcer observed that Walter Payton had carried the football over nine miles in his career. And the other announcer said, “Yeah, and that’s with someone knocking him down every 4.6 yards!”
For the most part, I’ve never been afraid of dogs. There’s only been two times that I’ve gotten bit, both by Chihuahuas. I think they both had some type of little-dog complex. But since deer hunters consistently go to and from their tree stand in the dark; if the neighbor or the local farmer has a dog, it will inevitably locate your movement and proceed to let the whole county know that you are there. On one particular farm that I hunt, I have to go by three dogs. I’ve discovered over the years that each one of these have there on sort of motivation for chasing my vehicle.
