What A Parade!
What A Parade!
Thanksgiving evening, November 22nd, at precisely 7pm, it all started! Forest City, once again, became the Christmas time “City Of Lights”. A million lights were turned on and greeted everyone assembled downtown. The lights, wrapped around trees, glistening overhead, embracing buildings and creating favorite Christmas characters. This is the scene that welcomes this wonderful time of the year.

Listen To Life

What are you thankful for today?

It seems to me that a lot of the conversations I listen to are more about what people don’t like, what they don’t have, what they don’t agree with, etc., than about what they do like, what they do have, what they agree with and just generally what they’re thankful for.  Focusing on these negatives causes your mind and spirit to attract more of them.  When you focus on the positives, you discover more of them in your life. So today, focus for a minute on what you’re thankful for. I’m thankful today for:

Outdoor Truths

I just spent the last several days traveling from Missouri to Kentucky trying to time my arrival at each place so that the deer season were either in prime rut or just before. Even though one can be pretty certain as to when these times come, the weather and other conditions also affect how productive these times actually are. For instance, a couple of years ago the rain had been so plentiful, the soybeans and corn were still not harvested when I arrived. This made hunting extremely difficult because there were so many places for the bucks to hide. Heat also makes a difference. It seems the warmer the weather, the less active the rut can be. All in all, much like the weather itself, it’s not a perfect science and definitely not a sure thing.

NASCAR Season Is Over And It’s Miller Time!
NASCAR Season Is Over And It’s Miller Time!

They were going for broke, Jimmie Johnson had the strategy to maybe get by for a sixth Sprint Cup Championship. For five-time, it wasn’t meant to be though.

After a long, stellar season, Brad Keselowski stayed strong especially in the postseason and survived the final two weeks to capture the 2012 title among the NASCAR elite. Jimmie Johnson, who was trying to win on fuel mileage at Miami, definitely had the fuel strategy and better mileage to keep Keselowski on his toes.

The Golden Man From Pforzheim
The Golden Man From Pforzheim

In 1848, the discovery of gold by James W. Marshall at Sutters Mill in Coloma, California beckoned thousands of people all over the United States and the world to what became known as the “Gold Rush”!  People came chasing their dream.

However, prior to all this, a man from across the sea in a city in the German state of Baden, specifically, Pforzheim, Germany also would chase his dream. He would become Germany’s gift to Rutherfordton, North Carolina.

            Who do you follow?

My family and I live out on a farm where we have horses and board other people’s horses.  We also raise yellow Labrador retrievers.

One day I went out in the backyard where one of the labs, Princess, was barking.  She was about a year old, and playful and fun.  She was on a lead and had wrapped her wire all the way around the tree to the point where she could only lie down.  She had no room to move.  She barked for help.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
Most of us hunters like to consider ourselves of the diehard variety. We’re not afraid to get up early, stay out late, and do whatever it takes to get our deer; unless it’s walk more than about a quarter of a mile from our vehicle. It’s true. Most hunters don’t hunt too far off the beaten path. I’ve actually seen some folks ride their four-wheeler up to the very tree they are hunting in. They say the deer never notice. I say they do.
