Week One of High School Football in the Books

Last Friday was a strange twist and turn of emotion for every school in Rutherford County and even for Chesnee in the opening week of high school football. As weird as it may seem, the only team to get a victory within the county was Thomas Jefferson, while Chesnee did some damage south of the border.

The Gryphons, behind the leadership of an experienced Jerry Cash, gained their second ever win in the football program’s short hiatus last Friday. Will McGraw scored both touchdown for Thomas Jefferson (1-0) in a thrilling ending at home.

It started 21 years ago and is now called one of, if not, the best car shows in the Southeast. “Hot Nights & Cool Rides” continues to be a display of vintage automotive Americana! American vehicle creativity, ingenuity and design are presented and displayed at this annual mega-event! The serious, the curious and the hobby enthusiasts all come out to take their time to see what each year brings. They are always over awed by the magnificent display of engineering which has become an American trademark. It is definitely one of the best free shows around.

Sat. Aug. 25, 5pm until at the American Legion Aux; 43 Depot St. Tryon. Cost $8. Proceeds go to veterans needs.
 
Community Awareness Connection Event 
Sat. Sept. 8, 10am-1pm at the Forest City Housing Recreation Park; 147 East Spruce St. Forest City. Free household products (paper towels, toilet paper, etc. & baby diapers) for everyone that resides in these complexes. Free food, Christian rap, dance & songs, bouncy house & face painting. Safelink cell phone registration will be held for all those in need of a cell phone. Requirements: Must receiving housing assistance, SNAP Benefits (food stamps), or Medicaid. Info: 864-461-7178.
 
Relay for Life Book Sale
