Ryan Arrowood Nearly Flawless In Virginia NCAA Regional
Ryan Arrowood Nearly Flawless In Virginia NCAA Regional

Former R-S Central pitcher and current Appalachian St. right hander, Ryan Arrowood was terrific, in an opening round performance on Saturday. Arrowood had a no-hitter in the seventh inning and struckout nine, before giving up two late hits in a win over Oklahoma.

Appalachian St. posted an even bigger win over host seed Virginia the following day which left them one game away from advancing to the Super Regionals.

Although, they were in the driver’s seat, the Mountaineers fell short as Oklahoma won twice on Monday to end their season at 41-17. However, they won their first NCAA baseball tourney game since 1973 this past weekend and it was a monumental moment in that Arrowood was able to deliver it.

Outdoor Truths
Outdoor Truths
When I first started deer hunting it seemed that the season would never come around. It reminded me how, as a youngster, I would anticipate Christmas. The night before both days I never slept much. Today is much different. I’m not sure why, but it feels as if the time between turkey and deer season is barely negligible. And even though I get excited to be back into the woods, I usually get a good night’s sleep the night before opening day.

I try to do as much fishing as possible during the time between the seasons, but my primary goal is to accomplish a few home projects as well as my honey-do list. In order to keep me going, I just consider these projects part of my pre season preparations. The problem is that I’m already feeling the pressure of getting everything done. The summer days are so hot that it doesn’t take long to wear out.

Listen To Life
Are you tangled?

A female humpback whale wandered a little close to San Francisco and became entangled in crab traps and their lines.  She had hundreds of pounds of traps and lines on her, wrapping around her tail, her body, and even a line tugging in her mouth.  She struggled to stay afloat enough to breathe.

A fisherman saw her and radioed an environmental group for help.  They showed up and decided that the only way to rescue her was by cutting the lines free, a really dangerous adventure because with just one flip of her tail, she could kill one of them.

Thomas Jefferson and East Rutherford End Dream Seasons Just Short of Prize
Thomas Jefferson and East Rutherford End Dream Seasons Just Short of Prize
Every season, high school teams across the state keep their eye on the prize--going in search of a title.

Thomas Jefferson’s girls soccer team (18-5) went as far as a club could go, but were unfortunately dealt a 2-0 loss in 1A state championship game last Friday in Raleigh.

Southwest Onslow, a state champion in the same sport two years ago, was every bit as good as advertised.

Scoring in the eight and 32nd minute of the first half was all the ladies from Jacksonville needed as their defense held Thomas Jefferson’s Anna Dedmond in check throughout the contest.

Taking Care Of Our Own... “Twistfest” Inaugurated To Help Our Community
Taking Care Of Our Own... “Twistfest” Inaugurated To Help Our Community
You might say that the recent tornado in Rutherford County has had its’ benefit. Because of this terror of nature, “Twistfest” - a new event to help raise money for anyone affected within the community - was conceived and held it’s first benefit concert on Saturday, May 12th. It was held at the Golden Valley Music Park in Bostic. The setting was great and on the stage, six bands entertained those that took the time to enjoy the afternoon and evening and came out to support this new organization.

“Twistfest is a great idea! It is a preventative maintenance program that stands ready not only to raise funds, but also to assist anyone harmed by a natural disaster. This event should grow and get bigger every year and definitely deserves the support of the community.
