Free Course for Families of Mentally Ill
The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Rutherford-Cleveland is offering this series of 12-week classes beginning Thurs. Sept. 8, 6:30-9pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, in Shelby. The class is designed to help people who are dealing with the issues of living with a loved one who has been diagnosed with one or more of these no fault biological brain disorders. Without question it is the best car show in the Southeast! This is the 20th anniversary of the Forest City Merchants Association “Hot Nights & Cool Rides”! Merchants Association President, Kelly Dale says, with all things considered, this year, 2011, should be the “biggest yet”! She also commended association members who had worked so hard with her to put this years show together.

One of the shows I like to watch on occasion is called Whale Wars. It is the real-life adventure of those who are trying to stop Japanese merchant ships from killing whales in the name of research. According to the last episode, they may have won this war for good. I rejoiced with them. And while they may not understand a hunter being their ally; it perfectly fits into the real mindset of those who both kill and protect.

A free mobile phone application with comprehensive information about North Carolina’s state parks has been introduced by the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation in partnership with Friends of State Parks and ParksByNature Network, a developer of mobile, interactive networks.
The downloadable Pocket Ranger Mobile Tour Guide for Apple iPod and iPhone and Adroid smartphones allows visitors to plan and explore state parks with details readily at hand about park locations, trails, facilities, reservations, events and special news alerts.

Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park welcomes Michael Rogers as the new Climbing Director at Fox Mountain Guides, the Park’s exclusive climbing partner. As Director, Rogers is the primary rock climbing guide at Chimney Rock and is in charge of promotions and hosting climbing events at the Park, as well as being a liaison with Park staff. Fox Mountain Guides is the only AMGA-Certified program in the Southeast and is known for having some of the most highly-trained and certified guides in the region.
