Most mornings I am challenged before I really even begin my day. When I’m not hunting or fishing, I meet a few friends for an early morning run. The challenge is not actually in the run, even though they can be difficult as well. But the real confrontation comes as I see various people on the trail. There are folks of all ages who have some sort of desire or reason for getting out very early to walk or run. Many of the older ones do it because a doctor has prescribed them to walk a few times each week. So they do. But I don’t think they really understood what the doctor really meant.

American Legion Post 74 completed the sale of raffle tickets for the Rutherford County historical edition rifle at the Big Day in Ellenboro on the 4th of July.
The Habitat for Humanity Restore needs your help! This is a bargain store which features everything for sale except clothing. It is one big bargain bonanza with items you can’t find elsewhere. Now, you should “heed the need!”. More items are desperately needed for this great charitable organization which does so much good for the people of Rutherford County.
As funny as it sounds, the little league pledge still means something to me. Apparently, the youth in our county have that same pride during this summer’s version of Little League All-Stars.
A total of ten Rutherford County teams qualified for the upcoming state championship rounds.
The long, hot, summer days are trying for those who love the outdoors. Fishing can only be tolerated very early or very late, and hunting is not even in the picture. These times of drought make us edgy and uneasy while we are waiting for better times.
Sometimes, it seems that we live in a pace of extremes. The action is either fast and furious, or slow and non-existent. There are no days that the hunting and fishing is so good that we go at it in a leisurely pace. No, there is no dimmer switch on our activities. We are either on or off.

In Japan the loved American sport, baseball is known as “besuboru or yaku” literally “fifi eld ball”. It has become the number one sport in all of Japan. 20 million Japanese flfl ock to stadiums to watch the great American game. This past Friday, July 1st, the Forest City Owls hosted an international event.
It was another small town show of pride parade that was just one of thousands in America. The Big Day In Ellenboro July 4th Parade, brought the community together. First the parade down Main Street, bedecked with flfl ags all along the route.
Before the Forest City Owls-Japanese All-Star game, the managers and umpires all meet at home plate and with the help of an interpreter
The winning ticket will be drawn at the Rutherfordton Hilltop Festival October 11th!
