Born in Wilmington, NC March 5, 1950, Ken graduated from Williston High School in Wilmington and soon after joined the army. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he attended NC A&T and Livingstone College where he met the love of his life, Pam Elliott. On February 7, 1975, his son Miller Paul Reid was born.

Maxine Delores Black Heafner, 92 of Rutherfordton passed away December 31, 2022.

All the food was cooked for the Thursday evening Dec. 22 meal at the New Beginnings Soup Kitchen (NBSK) in Rutherfordton as volunteers waited for the drive through serving line to begin at 4:30p.m. Hundreds were expected to receive the free pre-Christmas dinner of turkey, dressing, gravy, green beans, rice and dessert.
